Ricky Nicolazzia – Resident Trainer

“From Ferrari Engines to Equine Training Dreams”

Born into the roar of Ferrari engines in Northern Italy, his family’s car legacy was a natural calling for many. However, Ricky’s heart was drawn to a different kind of horsepower – the kind with four legs. At fourteen, he began my equestrian odyssey on a Tuscany horse ranch, trading labor for invaluable lessons under the guidance of trainer Marco Manzi. Transitioning his passion into a full-time pursuit, Ricky ventured into horseshoeing with the help of a friend and later joined the ranks of CISAL QH alongside American trainer Don Boyd. Inspired by winning the 1994 Snaffle Bit Futurity Open Reserve Championship as a young trainer, his career soared, marked by numerous successes in primary events. The journey took him from Oregon with Bob Avila, then later back to Italy where I trained for renowned teams like CISAL QH, AZ Ag Pollarini Piero, and 23QH. In 2009, California beckoned, and Ricky embraced a new challenge at Pira’s Cows and Horses. Ricky’s success at shows and clinics fueled the ranch’s growth. Moving into 2016 he ventured to Arizona for work alongside Andrea Fappani for three years.  Relocating to Bandalero Ranch in 2019, Ricky seized the opportunity to train cow horses all day in the stunning Arizona facility. Today, as the head trainer for Rogers Heaven Sent Ranch, LLC., Ricky is grateful for the unwavering support of the owners and loyal clients who have been with him every step of the way.

Enrico Grandi – Assistant Trainer

“Turning Dreams into Reality with Dedication and Passion”

Enrico’s equestrian journey commenced at the age of seventeen, initially as a recreational pursuit with friends. Hailing from a family unfamiliar with equine matters, his introduction to horses was unconventional. It was only after a friend introduced him to the world of cow horse that he found an enduring passion, captivated by the discipline after viewing a series of compelling videos.
Determined to deepen his understanding of horse training, Enrico embarked on his career as a reiner in Italy. He had the privilege of working with esteemed trainers and renowned ranches, including Bernard Fonck at the 23 QH, Pierluigi Chioldo at Roberta Stables, and Ambrosini QH. These experiences provided him with a comprehensive education under the coaching of accomplished professionals.  Having gained invaluable insights from these mentors, Enrico resolved to further hone his skills in the United States. His journey led him to work with Jay McLaughlin at the Aaron Ranch, a pivotal experience that significantly contributed to his growth in the realm of cow horses. Upon returning to Italy, he immersed himself in the Italian cow horse industry, achieving notable successes, including winning the Italian Derby in the Limited Open class and securing several Reserve Championships in Futurity and the European Derby.  Sensing the need for continued growth and challenge, Enrico made the decision to return to the United States to work once again with Jay McLaughlin, this time at his new ranch in Amarillo. In the past year, Enrico has been contributing his skills and dedication to Ricky and Heaven Sent Ranch. This professional collaboration has proven to be the most rewarding choice of his career, and he is profoundly grateful for the opportunities they have afforded him. The quote “From nothing. To something. To everything,” serves as a daily inspiration to Enrico.

Kennedy Crosby – Assistant Trainer

“Embarking on a transformative journey towards passion and guidance”

Kennedy’s equestrian journey began in the vast landscapes of Arizona, where her love for horses ignited at an early age. Gifted her first horse at five, her father’s dedication to breaking and training it laid the foundation for a lifelong devotion to these magnificent animals. From roping to barrel racing, horseback riding became a cherished lifestyle.  A pivotal moment arrived during high school when Kennedy encountered her first cow horse. This experience marked a turning point in her understanding of riding and set the stage for her future endeavors in the equestrian world.  Guided by mentors such as Sandy Allen and the remarkable Cal Cooper, Kennedy’s journey took a significant leap forward. Their impassioned coaching left an indelible mark on her, shaping her skills and perspectives within the equestrian community. Notably, her senior year in high school proved to be a triumph as she clinched the state championship in cow horse at the Arizona high school rodeo. Steering two exceptional mares lent by Jill Waterman and Cheryl Smith, Kennedy showcased her prowess in the discipline.  Post-graduation, Kennedy’s quest for knowledge continued, and she found herself under the mentorship of the revered AL Dunning. This mentorship blossomed into a cherished familial bond, as AL’s wisdom and guidance became integral to Kennedy’s growth as an equestrian.  Embracing the opportunity at Heaven Sent Ranch, Kennedy viewed it as a pivotal step in nurturing her skills and love for the cow horse discipline.
